Effect of a herbal yeast food supplement and long-distance running on immunological parameter.

• Both a poor diet and extreme sporting performances weaken the immune defense system (infections). The ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology), Zurich, tested Bio-Strath Food Supplement in a double-blind trial on sixteen male and female runners over 31 days (half-marathon distance 21 km, time required 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 hours).

Results:
The runners in the Bio-Strath group recovered significantly better after the test run. This could be seen from the number of suppressor-T-lymphocytes, natural killer cells reduced by the run and by reaction to ConA.

Effect of a plasmolysed yeast preparation (Bio-Strath) on cellular functions.

Since 1977, in collaboration with ESA, NASA and on further space organizations, the Space Biology Group of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich, has been carrying out investigations into human cells in weightlessness.
Weightlessness has been shown to inhibit the production of the lymphocytes necessary for the body’s defense system.

Results:
In this work it was shown that Bio-Strath Food Supplement compensated the major inhibition of lymphocyte activity at simulated weightlessness of 0.2 x g to a considerable extent.

Influenza and colds in winter: Prophylaxis with a herbal yeast preparation in comparison with influenza vaccination

On 232 participants, divided into 4 groups, Bio-Strath Food Supplement liquid and tablets were compared with the influenza vaccination and a control group.

Results:
The two Bio-Strath groups showed better results in the following fields. General well being, concentration, fatigue, vitality and stress and a greater decrease of absence from work than in he group influenza vaccination and in the control group.

Stress-compensation by a food supplement based on yeast plasmolysate in mitogen-activated T lymphocytes under simulated low-gravity

T lymphocyte activity is sharply reduced, both in vitro and in vivo, under low gravity conditions – in space and also under simulated conditions in a clinostat ort he Random Positioning Machine (RPM). It was possible to demonstrate that the reduced T lymphocyte activity in vitro at 0.01 g in the Random Positioning Machine (RPM) was compensated with Bio-Strath Food Supplement.

It was further found that the activity markers CD25, CD69 and HLA-DR on the cell surface, which are also reduced under microgravity, were normalized, as was the expression of IL-2R.

A new device developed to simulate microgravity for space biology studies under laboratory conditions (Random Positioning Machine – RPM) allows the subjection of immunologically active cells to a reproducible stress. Cell proliferation, soluble IL-2 receptors in the cell culture and lymphocyte surface markers, such as CD25 (IL-2R), CD69 and HLA-DR were the points measured.

The most important discovery from this study is normalization of the reduced cell proliferation under microgravity stress as a result of Bio-Strath Food Supplement.
